Generation NXT - NXT recap for May 18, 2016

We find out that Austin Aries' tag team partner is "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura.

Austin Aries and "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura beat Blake and Murphy. After the match, Alexa Bliss turns her back on Blake and Murphy, and then Blake turns his back on Murphy, effectively ending them as a tag team and faction.

We see a video package of Asuka.

Bayley knows that Nia Jax loves to use her size to intimidate, but she says that's not going to happen. She admits that Nia Jax is tough, but she is beatable. After tonight, she will re-focus on becoming NXT Women's Champion once again.

Cathy Kelley interviews No Way Jose, who calls his style "Jose being Jose." He says his smile is why opponents underestimate him and that he has high energy. He says he's here in NXT to have a fiesta.

Carmella says that Enzo Amore will be back soon, and that she is happy for Big Cass' recent success on the main roster. She says she's still in NXT to become Women's Champion.

Carmella beats Peyton Royce by submission.

We see footage from last Saturday's house show in Portland, Oregon, which ended in a brawl between Finn Balor and Samoa Joe that involved most of the locker room. We then see a new contract signing as shown on Facebook Live, where it is revealed that Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship at TakeOver will take place in a steel cage, making the match the first-ever steel cage match in NXT history.

Alexa Bliss tells Blake and Murphy that it's about her now, and that it will be easier without them on their back. Murphy gives Blake a disapproving stare.

Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa beat Danny Burch and Rob Ryzin.

NXT General Manager William Regal congratulates the team of Enzo Amore and Bigg Cass and The Vaudevillains for their recent main roster success. He then announces that American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) will defend the NXT Tag Team Championships against The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) in a tag team title rematch at TakeOver.

Nia Jax beats Bayley after Bayley lands hard on her injured left knee and Nia works on it to the chagrin of the ref.

Today's Match of the Day is Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, two of New Japan Pro Wrestling's most blockbuster performers. This match took place during this year's annual G1 Climax Tournament, which Tanahashi would ultimately win. This match was also named a 5 Star Match by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Wrestler of the Day - 9/15: Shinsuke Nakamura!

I'm adding new components to this blog, because quite frankly, I'm tired of seeing just results to the same weekly shows every week. JEEZUS. Today, I begin my first "Wrestler of the Day" blog. Although I would like to post for every single day, I know that if time doesn't persist, then there will not be one for that day. In this particular post, I will provide a short synopsis of the wrestler (or tag teams) and a match that greatly depicts their awesomeness. Ready? Okay! 

Today's Wrestler of the Day... none other than the "King of Strong Style" himself, Shinsuke Nakamura! 

The ever electrifying and eccentric Shinsuke Nakamura has been a prominent figure in Japan's Puroresu for the last decade. Whether it be putting on 5-Star Classics against the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi and Kazuchika Okada; or bringing the relatively new IWGP Intercontinental Championship the prestige it has today. Nakamura continues to amaze audiences with his killer Strong Style trademark and undeniable charisma across the globe.  

Here's one of his highly acclaimed matches, where he defends the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Kota Ibushi on January 4th, 2015 at Wrestle Kingdom 9.

The show opens with a usual segment with a NJPW star, this week it is Shinsuke Nakamura.

We are welcomed in by Mauro Ranallo with Josh Barnett. The three matches this week take place August 4, 2013 from Osaka Bodymaker Colosseum. The G1 Climax Tournament is an annual round robin tournament in which the winner gets a title shot at NJPW's biggest event Wrestle Kingdom. In this case, the winner of this tournament received a title shot at Wrestle Kingdom 8.

“The Machinegun” Karl Anderson beats Hiroyoshi Tenzan when he switches Tenzan's Anaconda Buster into his signature Swivel Gun Stun.


 Davey Boy Smith Jr. is making his way to the ring with Taka Michinoku. Barnett points out Smith was one of his students. His opponent is Satoshi Kojima as he makes his way to the ring.

 Shinsuke Nakamura talks about his rivals and how he wondered how he was going to top matches put on by other competitors.

Back at ringside Kota Ibushi makes his way to the ring. His opponent is Shinsuke Nakamura as he makes his dramatic (but epic) entrance.

Shinsuke Nakamura beats Kota Ibushi. After the match Nakamura gets a microphone. He asks the crowd what they thought of the match. He asks Ibushi if it was exciting for him too. He screams Yeah-O and he leaves the ring. Out back Ibushi is collapsed on the floor he says he gave everything but his opponent had more to spare. He says as an individual he wants to keep on chasing Nakamura. We go to Nakamura who says Ibushi has potential and he has all the qualities of a great wrestler. We go off the air with Nakamura talking more about his match with Ibushi.
