Underground Sound: Lucha Underground Recap + Review - January 14, 2015

We recap the journey to crowning the first-ever Lucha Underground Champion, Prince Puma.

Fenix is in Dario Cueto’s office, who has been really impressed with him as of late. Cueto has great plans for Fenix, and says that it is his destiny to be in Lucha Underground. However, he has a task at hand for Fenix – destroying Prince Puma!

Cage defeated Angelico, Aerostar and Argenis in a four-way elimination in his debut match. After the match, he grabs the mic and says that they call him Cage and that he’s a machine! Cage is here to dominate, folks.

Chavo Guerrero is in the ring. He clearly has some unfinished business with Blue Demon, Jr., as he calls him out to the ring. He “apologizes” to Blue Demon, saying that he’s sorry for not exposing him for the fraud that he really is, and how he’s sorry for not ripping the mask off of his face. Chavo stands up and slips brass knuckles from his pocket to hit Blue Demon with them, but he swings – and misses! Blue Demon goes in on the attack and gains the upperhand. He grabs the steel chair and hits Chavo with it, and stands tall.

Drago vs. King Cuerno ends in a draw due to a double count-out – and Drago diving off top of the balcony putting King Cuerno through a table!

We take a look at a background of the awe-inspiring Fenix. He takes flight tonight!

Lucha Underground Championship: Prince Puma (c) defeated Fenix to retain the title. After the match, Cage attacks Puma from behind and hits him with three consecutive powerbombs. Cage stands over Puma to end the show.

Review

Welcome to the January 14th review of Lucha Underground! In this episode, we saw the debut of four new luchadors – with one destructive machine in particular, a confrontation between two bitter rivals, and the first ever title defense in Lucha Underground history. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Four New Luchadors…. but there’s a destructive machine in particular…

I’m digging the fact that Lucha Underground is about putting the spotlight on lucha libre’s young stars and highflyers from around the world and tonight was no different. Four new luchadors were introduced: Angelico, Aerostar, Argenis, and the more anticipated debut of Cage (known in other promotions as Brian Cage). Even though, Cage was the main attraction for this match, I have to say, I was fairly impressed by the agility and cockiness of Angelico.

Of course, Cage picked up the victory in an impressive debut in Lucha Underground. With a debut like that, this guy is sure to be a “lean, mean destructive machine” in Lucha Underground. Hey, maybe it is time for Mil Muertes to take a step back for a bit, and watch Cage dominate (sorry, just had to bring the other big guy into the equation).

Two Bitter Rivals: The Confrontation!

Last week during the Aztec Warfare episode of Lucha Underground, Blue Demon, Jr. made his return after several weeks to get revenge against Chavo Guerrero (along with the help of Sexy Star). Tonight, Chavo calls out Blue Demon, Jr. to the ring to… apologize? Nah, it was an apology alright. The apology turned into a setup for a possible attack – with golden brass knuckles. Blue Demon sees it coming, gains the upperhand, and delivers a chair shot to Chavo. This rivalry is FAR from over.

History: First-Ever Televised Title Match/Defense in Lucha Underground’s History!

If you’ve been keeping up with Lucha Underground news, then you would know that Prince Puma actually won the title back in October of last year. Which means that this title match may have taken place last year as well (correct me if I’m wrong). Nonetheless, history was made tonight when Prince Puma put his title on the line against the awe-inspiring, Fenix. Before this match, Fenix was in the office of Dario Cueto, with Dario having his sights on destroying Puma and throwing any challenge at him necessary to accomplish this task.

This match was a good one. Back and forth action and amazing highflying moves as you would expect. Puma retains with a beautiful 630 splash, but outta nowhere… BAM! A blindside attack by the machine himself, Cage. Cage destroyed Puma, hitting him with repeated powerbombs. Along with that impressive debut, Cage looks to be taken seriously in Lucha Underground, and he’s already there.

That’s it for this week’s review. There will be more next week. Hope you enjoyed it!
