Wrestler of the Day - 10/5: Pentagon Jr.!

Today's Wrestler of the Day is "Cero Miedo" himself, Pentagon Jr.!

I first got a glimpse of how freakishly BADASS Pentagon, Jr is when I first saw him on Lucha Underground. You guys see the lucha libre pattern that I have been posting for the last couple of weeks? Anyways, in Lucha Underground, Pentagon is depicted as a anti-hero who cares less about anyone's approval.... except for his "master", who was revealed to be Vampiro at Ultima Lucha, Pt. 2. He snapped arms first and questions his master later. He's also known for his work as a rudo (heel) down in AAA, where he is a member of La Sociedad and a current AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion with Sexy Star (his arch nemesis in LU, ironically enough). What gets me about Pentagon is how great of a worker he is. He can pull off a spot, and it could change the entire complexion of a match. and it doesn't hurt to be under the tutelage of another badass, Vampiro. Lucha Underground highly-anticipated season 2 is rapidly approaching, and we can only wonder what's up Pentagon sleeve...

Taya beats Goya Kong, La Hiedra, the debuting Lady Shani and Lady Maravilla to retain the Reinas de Reinas Championship!

Brian Cage and El Mesias beats Fenix and Drago.

Los Güeros del Cielo (Angelico & Jack Evans) beats Pentagon Jr. & Joe Lider (c) and Daga & Steve Pain to win the AAA World Tag Team Championship!

Taurus beats Cibernético, La Parka,Blue Demon Jr.,Averno, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Electroshock, Aero Star, Chessman, and Niño Hamburgesa in his debut match to win the 2015 Copa Antonio Pena tournament, by last eliminating La Parka!

Myzteziz, El Texano Jr. and El Hijo del Fantasma beats Rey Mysterio Jr., Psycho Clown and the debuting Garza, Jr. in six man tag team action.

Alberto El Patron (who has Psycho Clown in his corner) beats Johnny Mundo (who has Cage in his corner) to retain the AAA Mega Championship via submission! After the match, Cage and Mundo attack El Patron, only for Rey Mysterio to come out for the save, and hit a double 619 on the former. Myzteziz comes out to seemingly even the odds, but Johnny Mundo grabs a guitar and cracks him across the skull with it! The brawl continues among the men to end the show.

Wrestler of the Day - 9/29/15: Fenix!

Today’s Wrestler of the Day is the awe-inspiring highflyer of AAA and Lucha Underground, Fenix!

I first got into Fenix by watching him on Lucha Underground. I was immediately hooked on him, and I began looking up more matches of his. His work in AAA is just as impressive – if not, more impressive than his work in Lucha Underground. And it doesn’t hurt to come from a wrestling family (for those of you who didn’t know, Pentagon, Jr. is Fenix’s real-life brother) as well. Come to find out, Fenix has held the AAA Fusion Championship and is one of the top technicos in Mexico. The same can be said for his tenure in Lucha Underground. Not only is he one of the top technicos in the company, he is the inaugural Gift of the Gods Champion, which gives him a guaranteed shot at the Lucha Underground Championship (that’s IF he doesn’t wait too long). My advice to you is that if you haven’t seen this guy’s work, check him out. You won’t be disappointed.

I have gotta take it Lucha Underground for this one, and give you this match. Why? Because it has “Grave Consequences”…

Wrestler of the Day - 9/25: "Mr. GMSI" Brian Cage!

Today’s Wrestler of the Day is one of the top agile big men on the scene today, “The F’n Machine” Brian Cage.

Seriously, 2015 has been the year of Cage. He has been making waves in the Mexican promotion Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), and has quickly become one of the top rudos in Mexico today. His “Pro-Trump” persona was one that has shocked many, and has caused major heat among the Mexican fans. Cage is also known for performing in Lucha Underground as the “epiphysis of Lucha Libre”, and is known for having little regard for the Lucha Libre culture. Cage is also an accomplished bodybuilder, but wrestling has always been his first love. He began bodybuilding to increase his body mass for the wrestling business (he has repeatedly said that he graduate high school at 154 lbs!), and as you can see today’s – this dude is jacked!! Cage continues to grow in the pro wrestling business, and it is only a matter of time that he reaches the top of the mountain, because he’s not a man… HE’S A MACHINE!!!

Wrestler of the Day - 9/23: El Hijo del Fantasma!

Today’s Wrestler of the Day is the “Chocolate Champ” himself, El Hijo del Fantasma.

Like many luchadors y luchadoras in Lucha Libre, El Hijo del Fantasma comes from a line of luchadors. Most notably, his father – El Fantasma. He is also one of the many luchdors who made the mass excursion from CMLL and AAA, citing differences with the former. In AAA, he’s enjoyed success as a former AAA Fusion Champion, and he is the current AAA World Crusierweight Champion. Nowadays, he has gained noriety for his breakout character of King Cuerno on Lucha Underground, who he describes as his “evil twin”. Cuerno/Fantasma is one of my favorites in AAA and LU, because he is not your traditional luchador. Yes, he can take it to the skies, but he is also technically sound in the ring as well.

Wrestler of the Day - 9/21: Angelico!

Today’s Wrestler of the Day is a wrestler who I became a fan of through Lucha Underground, Angelico!

Standing at 6’3” with a lean build and freakishly long legs, the South African highflyer is nothing short of impressive. He is well-known for taking risks, and is not afraid to take high leaps off of roofs when necessary. He is also known for working in AAA in Mexico, where he is a former AAA World Tag Team Champion with Jack Evans, collectively known as Guero los Cielos. I recently read about how WWE officials were reportedly impressed with his work in PWG. WWE, people! Of course, we should assume things, but I’ll be honest with you – I would not have a problem with it IF (and I do mean “IF!”) WWE happens to pick him up. However, all is well for him in AAA, LU and his seemingly increasing appearances on the American independent circuit.

Wrestler of the Day - 9/19: Sexy Star!

Today's Wrestler of the Day is top luchadora, Sexy Star (as pictured with Reina de Reinas Champ, Taya Valkyrie)!

Today, most fans would know her for working in Lucha Underground. However, she has been a fixture in Asistencia Asesoría y Administración since making her professional debut in 2006. Aside from her female empowerment persona in Lucha Underground, she's also a badass rudo who's currently a member of La Legión Extranjera (The Foreign Legion) and one half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions with Pentagon, Jr, a rival of hers in Lucha Underground. With undeniable charisma and  great skills of the traditional Lucha Libre style, Sexy Star is the epitome of a self-made woman, and whether her opponent is a woman or man, she is NOT afraid of showing how powerful she truly is.

Here's one of my favorites from her time in AAA, against Fabi Apache in a Hair vs Hair (Lucha de Apuestas) Match back in 2009.

Wrestler of the Day - 9/17: El Texano, Jr.

Greetings to all! We're taking a little trip down to AAA for today's Wrestler of the Day, which is El Texano, Jr!

The son of the late El Texano, the young Texano, Jr. has been one of the top rudos in AAA since his debut for the promotion. He has been affiliated with Los Perros del Mal and Los Hijos del Averno, and now is currently affiliated with La Sociedad, more specifically the subgroup El Consejo with El Hijo del Fantasma. Perhaps one of his biggest credentials is being the longest reigning AAA Mega Champion in AAA history, holding the title for 735 days until being upended by Alberto El Patron. With his bullrope always in tow, Texano will surely make his mark in lucha libre.

Match of the Day - 9/15/2015: Prince Puma vs. Fenix!

One more component being introduced is the ever-popular Match of the Day. In this particular post, I will just simply write a great match, or a match that I will highly recommend you guys out there to watch, and I will sometimes add a little history behind the match, if necessary.

Today's Match of the Day - Prince Puma (Ricochet)(c) vs. Fenix for the Lucha Underground Championship from January 14th, 2015, which was absolutely incredible to say the least!

Dinastia, Drago, Goya Kong and Pimpinela Escarlata beats Daga, Mamba, Mini Psycho Clown and Sexy Star via Submission in an Atomicos match, when Pimpinela forces Sexy Star to submit to the bow and arrow. After the match, a victorious Pimpinela kisses commentator Matt Striker.

Tropicasas is brought out for his last match as a referee.

Los Psycho Circus (Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown) beats Los Villanos (Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V) in Villanos III's Farewell Match.

Los Hell Brothers (Averno, Chessman, Cibernetico) beats Fénix and Los Güeros del Cielo (Angélico and Jack Evans) and  El Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagón Jr. and El Texano Jr. in a Cage Ladder match to retain the AAA World Trios Championships after Fantasma takes a devastating low blow from Averno, who grabs the titles.

Blue Demon, Jr. & La Parka beats El Mesias & Electro Shock via El Pulpo submission.

We see a tributes to late greats, Hector Garza and Perro Aguayo Jr., who will both be inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame Class of 2015.

Alberto El Patron beats Cage in a Lucha de Apuestas Hair vs. Hair match via submission to retain the AAA Mega Championship, thus the latter, Cage being forced to have his hair shaved. Cage tries to attack Alberto, but eats a powerbomb instead. El Patron drapes the Mexican flag over a fallen Cage.

In what has been billed a "Dream Match", Rey Mysterio beats Myzteziz with a tilt-a-whirl armbar submission. Afterwards, Joe Lider, Pentagon Jr. and Averno all storm the ring and attack the two opponents with staple guns. Myzteziz and Mysterio fight back and Myzteziz staples Lider. Shockingly, Myzteziz turns on Rey and says he doesn't care about the fans or Rey. He turns full heel, and challenges Mysterio to a mask vs. mask match. He powerbombs Rey through a ringside table, then does a military press gutbuster.

Lucha, Lucha and MORE Lucha!

Alright, guys, here it is. I am going to do more than just recaps of the same shows each week. Not only am I venturing into more Puroresu, I am venturing into more Lucha Libre as well! Earlier this month, I did live coverage of one of AAA's top events called Verano de Escandalo ("Summer of Scandal"), and since then, I've been wanting to expand this blog into more international wrestling. Let's get started!

I've been getting into +Lucha TV, which gives fans the latest scoops on shows from promotions all round Mexico - from the thriving independent circuit to the major league promotions of CMLL and AAA. Along with their weekly episodes, they also give featured clips of various luchadors y luchadoras. Here's one of their most recent full episodes, from June 10th, 2015, which features matches and news from AAA, CaraLucha Promociones, Chilanga Lucha Libre, and more!:

AAA: Verano de Escándalo - 6/14/2015

Eight Person Mixed Tag Team Match: Machine Rocker, Mamba, Mini Psycho Clown and Taya beats Dinastía, Faby Apache, El Elegido, and Pimpinela Escarlata when Machine Rocker and Mamba make both Faby and Elegido submit at the same time.

10 Man Elimination Match/Alas de Oro Tournament: Drago beats  Fénix, Laredo Kid (who made a surprise return), Daga, Steve Pain, Aerostar, Bengala, Súper Nova, Súper Fly, and Hijo del Fantasma. During the match, Fenix suffered a shoulder injury, and had to be carried out on a stretcher.

Three-Way Trios Match for the AAA World Trios Championship: Los Hell Brothers (Averno, Cibernético, Chessman) beats Psycho Circus (Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown)(c) and Electroshock, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, and La Parka Negra in a three-way match to win the titles. Before the match, La Parka Negra (who was scheduled to compete in the eight person mixed tag match earlier tonight)m was revealed as the mystery partner for Electroshock and Hijo de Pirata Morgan. After the match, Monster Clown demanded a rematch, while Psycho Clown wanted to go head--to-head with them on the spot. Los Hell Brothers lay them both out, takes Murder Clown's mask and declares themselves dominate champions, saying they'll win any title match.

Lucha de Apuestas (Wager: Hair)/Steel Cage: Los Güeros del Cielo (Angélico and Jack Evans) beats The Black Family (Dark Cuervo and Dark Escoria). Per stipulation, both Cuervo and Escoria lost their hair.

AAA Mega Championship: After an absurd amount of interferences, Alberto El Patron (c) beats Cage via DQ, to retain the title. The latter and other members of La Sociedad proceed to attack the champion afterwards.

Trios Tag Team Match: La Parka, Myzteziz and Rey Mysterio beats Johnny Mundo, El Mesias and Pentagon, Jr. in the main event.
