The AWA World Tag Team Champinos The Midnight Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) go in for a promo. These two are really putting in some heavy heel work in this one. I would also like to comment that Janettyy has very good mic skills. They also seem to not be phased by the majo heat given to them by the crowd. They poke fun at the team of Rikki Nelson and Ken Raper, and gives them a shot at the AWA World Tag Team Championship out of arrogance. The title match starts right after the promo.
AWA World Tag Team Championship:
The Midnight Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) (c) defeated Rikki Nelson & Ken Raper with the Double DDT to retain
Next, a promo is cut by the team of "Gorgeous" Gary Young & Max Pain, who plan on winning the Southern Tag Team Title Tournament.
Tag Team Match:
Max Pain & "Gorgeous" Gary Young defeated David Johnson & Rodney Napper. These two straight dominated this match.
Big Scott Hall (yes, that Scott Hall) is next up being interviewed. Being a former AWA World Tag Team Champion with the late Curt Hennig, he looks to get back on top of the tag division by winning the Southern Tag Team Title tournament with "The Nightmare" Kenny Wayans. He's then interuppted by Jimmy Jack Funk & Tijo Khan, who were getting ready for their match.
Big Scott Hall (reluctantly) guests on commentary for the next match.
Tag Team Match:
Jimmy Jack Funk & Tijo Khan defeated Alan Reynolds & William "the Freezer" Thompson.
Jeff Jarrett (with a nice head of hair, may I add) is being interviewed, only to get interrupted by Funk & Khan. "The Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez goes in for the save and Funk & Khan make a run for it! Manny & Jeff plan to get revenge on Funk & Khan.
This next promo features the great Jerry "The King" Lawler and "Superstar" Bill Dundee as they plan in taking down Max Pain & Gary Young in the hunt for the Southern Tag Team Titles!
Jimmy Jack Funk & Tijo Khan are pissed about Manny Fernandez getting the upperhand. Now, they are literally occupying the show until they get what they want... Manny Fernandez & Jeff Jarrett! These two went ballistic! Several workers were able to kick them out of the building to regain order.
We see the top five scores of the Renegades Rampage Tournament, another major tournament that was going on at the time this show aired. Scott Hall, Max Pain and his tag partner, Gary Young are all tied in first place with 20 points, Bill Dundee is in second place, with 15 points, and 5 different wrestlers are tied in third place with 10 points. Side Note: Does this tournament have similarities to a former tournament that we know about (Hint: Took place in TNA)?
We then have an interview with newcomer (and sixteen-year veteran at the time) Sweet Brown Sugar, who looks to make an impact in CWA Memphis and says that if anybody messes with him it will be a "long night and afternoon."
Main Event:
Sweet Brown Sugar quickly defeats Keith Eric after a missile dropkick from the top rope. Brown Sugar then cuts a short, but charismatic promo after the match.
Back from break, Nate the Great (Keith Eric's manager) wants Brown Sugar to give his client a rematch, which Brown Sugar accpets.
Rematch:
Sweet Brown Sugar defeated Keith Eric in just 15 seconds (the commentators tell the time after matches) after a springboard crossbody off the top to end the show.
Here's my first Retro Review. Hope you guys enjoy!
