Sup, everyone and welcome to the February 25, 2015 edition of my Lucha Underground Recap! Tonight's episode was an incredible one, with two matches that I would consider classics, and build-ups to stories that have been transpiring for the last couple of weeks. Topics that I will be covering tonight are: two classic matches, ignited feud between Johnny Mundo and King Cuerno, and Black Lotus being questioned. Without further ado, lets get started!
Two Classics!
Tonight, we witnessed two classic matches: Aerostar vs. Drago and Lucha Underground Champion Prince Puma vs. Cage in a #1 Contenders Match. First off, Aerostar and Drago have already faced off twice in the past couple of weeks, with all of the matches being great encounters. However, this particular encounter took the cake for me. Right after an incredible start to the show, the proprietor of Lucha Underground, "El Jefe: Dario Cueto comes out and deems their series of matches a Best of Five Series Matches, with the winner of the final match getting a shot at one of his "famous opportunities". Oh, this is going to be good.
Also, you have the #1 Contenders Match between Cage and Prince Puma, which was so good, it could have been a World Title match for all I care. With near fall, after near fall, it just shows how both men were taking each other to the limit by using their distinctive styles in the ring. Cage continues to show why he could very well be the ultimate badass of Lucha Underground, mostly because of his unbelievable agility for a man his size, and his ability to easily transition from a powerhouse to a awe-inspiring high flyer in the blink of an eye. Puma's in-ring ability, as always, is straight up innovative high flying offense, and proving that humans can fly (haha). The only thing I did not like about this match: Konnan throwing in the towel and quitting on the behalf of the champion. Of course, Puma would be pissed about it, but the question is: what was he reason for doing so?
Mundo vs. Cuerno - A Feud Ignited.
These two tore, it. up. in the main event match. Despite the match ending in a draw (due to a double count-out), that did not stop the men from straight up brutalizing each other all over the Lucha Underground Temple. I knew that it was going to turn out more than just a challenge match to end the beef between the two for Cuerno attacking him several weeks ago. To be honest, I would love to see a rivalry between these two. I mean, these two having a match against each other for the first time and they can tear the house down like that? All joking aside, these two can have classics if Lucha Underground were to keep this up... in which they which do it more than likely.
Black Lotus gets questioned... by who?
Last week, as you know, a vignette was shown of the mysterious woman, now known to me as Black Lotus, was still on the hunt for "Matanza", a person she's wanted to kill since she was a little girl. What she did not know, however, is that there was someone else in the room with her, who captures her and takes her hostage. Fast forward a week later, she is in the trunk of someone's car, and the man is revealed to be a masked Luchador (and I have yet to find his name) who wants to know what Black Lotus knows about "Matanza". Phew, that is a lot to take in. What I am digging about this whole thing is that it really feels like you are watching a thriller film; and being that the El Rey Network is based around the Grindhouse effect, it just makes all more interesting. What I can take from the segment is more questions than answers. Who is this masked Luchador? Why is he questioning Black Lotus? When will he find out who "Matanza" is? So many questions, but it will be awhile before we find out, folks.
That's it for this week, folks! Tune in next week for another one of my "famous reviews" (taken that from El Jefe's "famous opportunities")! LUCHA! LUCHA! LUCHA!
